2. Why are there two competitions?
A. We know people have a wide range of weight to lose and wanted to try to encourage everyone to achieve their health and weight loss goals through some friendly competition and prizes. For someone who has only 10% of their body weight to lose, compared to maybe someone who has upwards of 20% or more, creating a fair competition would be more difficult, so we tried to capture both sets of individuals.
3. I am not sure which competition I should enter.
A. In order to enter the Biggest Loser Competition, you must have at least 20% of your body weight to lose, meaning if you were to lose 20% of your current weight you would have to fall within or above the healthy weight range on the BMI chart. If losing 20% of your body weight would cause you to follow below the healthy weight range, you are not eligible for this competition. For reference, we will be using the BMI chart from the American Cancer Society’s website. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/diet-physical-activity/body-weight-and-cancer-risk/adult-bmi.html
4. I’d like to enter the 10% Takedown competition, but I am not sure I qualify. I just have a little weight to lose.
A. In order to enter the 10% Takedown competition, you must have at least 10% of your weight to lose, meaning if you were to lose 10% of your current weight you would have to fall within the healthy weight range on the BMI chart. If losing 10% of your weight would cause you to drop BELOW the healthy weight range, unfortunately you are not eligible for the competition. For reference, we will be using the BMI chart from the American Cancer Society’s website. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/diet-physical-activity/body-weight-and-cancer-risk/adult-bmi.html
5. Can I enter both competitions?
A. If you qualify for the Biggest Loser Competition, then yes, you are automatically entered into the 10% Takedown competition as well. If you are one of the top three winners for the Biggest Loser, however, your name will not be added to the drawing for the 10% Takedown Competition.
6. What if I sign up for the 10% Takedown and end up losing more than 20% of my body weight.? Do I automatically become eligible for the Biggest Loser prize as well?
A. No. The 10% Takedown requires a simple weigh-in, whereas the Biggest Loser requires a full body scan. If you have at least 20% of your body weight to lose, it is recommended you sign up for the Biggest Loser competition.
7. What if I am not available to weigh-in when the final weigh-in dates are announced?
A. We will have a minimum of a one week window to get everyone weighed in at the end of the competition and will make every effort possible to get you in during a time that works for you. However, you must do a weigh-in and/or body scan at one of our designated locations to be eligible to win a prize.
8. What can I expect when I come to weigh-in?
A. You will need to bring your driver’s license with your home address. A Bridgeport address is required to enter the competition. You will sign a waiver and have your weight and height taken and recorded along with your contact information. If you are participating in the Biggest Loser competition, you will also have a body scan taken.
9. What is a body scan?
A. It’s an 3D scan to track hundreds of measurements. Provides automatic posture, body weight, body fat, muscle mass and balance assessments. It will show you changes in your body that a scale alone could never provide, providing you a more complete picture. Measurements are based on the surface of the body. Wearing loose or baggy pants and shorts when scanning can adversely affect scan results. Wearing no clothes (sports bra) on the upper body is ideal; however wearing tight fitting clothing will still produce good results.
10. I want to participate in the Biggest Loser competition, but don’t want to do the body scan, can I just weigh-in instead?
A. If you want to participate in the Biggest Loser competition you must do the body scan at the beginning and end of the competition. You’ll receive a wealth of information and we think you’ll love seeing your transformation this way! If you still don’t want to do it, you’re welcome to enter the 10% Takedown competition instead.
11. I only qualify for the 10% Takedown, but I’d love to do the body scan, can I do that instead of the weigh-in?
A. We understand, we think the body scan is so cool too! However, Enliven Chiropractic has so generously donated the use of their equipment to us and are only prepared to take the participants from the Biggest Loser competition. If you are still interested in the body scan, you can call them to talk about making an appointment to get one done on your own, separate from the competition. (You would still need to weigh in at WV Fitness to participate in the 10% Takedown.)
12. Who will see my weight?
A. Only the person weighing you in and a few other administrative members of Healthy Bridgeport will see your weight. However, if you are one of the Top 3 Male or Female winners of the Biggest Loser, we will reveal your starting and finishing weight at the awards ceremony.
13. I am ready to sign up! How do I do that?
A. You can sign up via our website at www.healthybridgeport.com. After signing up, you will then need to head to the correct weigh in location (WV Fitness for 10% Takedown and Enliven Chiropractic for Biggest Loser) to complete your registration. You are not registered until you have completed your weigh-in or body scan.
